Hi New Comer Here

Post  Rhonda on Wed Sep 03, 2008 9:30 pm

Hi All...... I am new here..... introduced to this site by a very good friend... checked it out and loved it.... so here I am. My name is Rhonda, and below is a little about me... or rather a lot probable... I tend to be a little wordy,as are most of us writer types.

I am a registered nurse, have been for over 20 years. I am thankful to God for the opportunity to work in this noble profession, and to be able to support myself financially. At 50 years old I am ready for a change. Writing has always been my passion, but with a marriage, raising a family, and just living day to day it was put on the back burner for a long time.

In November of 2004 my son was tragically killed. I reevaluated my life at this time, and my passion for writing was back with a vengeance. My head was so full of words I couldn't get them on paper fast enough. Poetry, song lyrics and short stories literally dripped from my pores. My broken heart was lashing out desperately for something to grasp.. a strong hold.. a safe place to mend. One word, one line at a time I slowly started to live again. I miss my son more than words can express. It has been almost four years now, and my head is still full of words, but there is peace and calmness in my soul.

I am married to the sweetest most romantic and understanding man in the world. Though he does not fully understand the writer part of me... he supports me and lets me spread my wings and fly. I love him with all my heart... and thank him for his devotion and inspiration.

Other wise I am your average, small East Texas town girl. I live in a little frame house on 15 acres. I love animals, working in my yard, and sitting out by a fire at night sipping some brandy and looking at the stars. I drive a pick up truck.. Ford to be exact. I listen to classic rock and roll and Christian music.. Third Day, Jars of Clay, Rich Mullins, Stephen Curtis Chapman, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Meatloaf, ZZ Topp, Eagles, Black Crowes, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Bob Seager being some of my favorites. Mexican or Chinese food restaurants are where I would say there is good food, but a cheeseburger and fries at the Sonic is good too. I like movies with strong characters, a good plot, and happy endings. I don't do scary or porn..eeek! I usually apply the same rules to the books I read, but since my brain is dependent on reading for survival, I will compromise if I have to. The back of a cereal box can be very interesting if you have nothing else to read. I believe in God, and give Him the praise for all the good people and things in my life.

My passion is ...
Jesus.. and my writing

I know too much about ...
Other people's drama

My parents always told me ...
" I love you, but the luggage you got for your 18th birthday is non returnable !"

My childhood ambition ...
To move to Montana, and live on a horse ranch.

My favorite memory ...
Tea parties, and playing dress up with the clothes in my grandmother's old trunk. Me, my mother, my grandmother, aunts, and cousins spent many a hot, sultry Texas day on the front porch dressed in old smelly clothes, most of them homemade out of tow sacks, old timey sun bonnets, and mis matched shoes. My grandmother's porch was our ship.. and we sailed all over the world, having tea with everyone from kings and queens to outlaws and eskimoes.

Why I write ...
To survive,.. my writing is the oxygen I breathe, the blood supply that feeds my brain, and the hope and desire of my heart and soul that some of the words I write will live on when I am long gone from this world, and will leave my small mark on the giant page of life.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
I read Danielle Steel books, and I enjoyed the Left Behind Series. I like a good romance book with lots of traveling, and strong characters. I read animal stories, and factual wildlife articles. Grey's Anatomy is my fav. TV program, and in the off season I watch the previous seasons on DVD. I listen to classic rock and christian music. I write song lyrics, and hopefully if I get them to the muscian I want to, I will be listening to "my" songs on the radio.

My first job ...
My first job away from my parents house was in the crop fields near where I lived. I planted, weeded, picked and hauled fruits and vegtables for about 50 cents an hour. My first real job with a pay check was waitress work.. where I learned that ordering food and it not being exactly right really brings out the worst in people. My waitressing days were short and sweet, and then I moved on to fast food, which is about the same.. just in a different silly looking uniform.

My best moment ...
I don't have a best friend, I consider all of my friends "the best". That is pretty much the same way I look at the moments of my life. Every breath I take, and each beat of my heart is a gift from God, everyone of them as important as the one before and the one after.

My inspiration ...
The people in my life are my inspiration. My girlfriends inspire me to be strong, and bold and to survive in this world. My friend Drew inspired me thru support and encouragement to rediscover my passion for writing. My grand daughters inspire me with big smiles, and many hugs to live each day to the fullest. My husband inspires me with knowing that true love is really unconditional and forever !
